The Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi
A Blessing of the Animals ~ October 4, 2008

Lord, You looked upon all of Your creation and declared that it was good; we thank You for the animals, with whom we share this earth, and particularly for those that You have given into our care. We pray that You will guard them, tend to their necessities, relieve their suffering, protect them from exploitation and let each of us see in them the beauty and glory of Your creative hand. As You raised up Your servant St. Francis, help us to be instruments of Your loving care for Your creatures, that we, with Your whole creation, may sing Your praises to the honor and glory of your Name. Amen
